EVENT - October Plot Stuff Part One

It's the early morning, after the eggs have hatched. How fun - I hope you all love your new Pokemon friends.

But that is not what this post is about. Oh, no. It's going to prove something to all of you.

Namely, the fact that NPCs can use this network as well. They can use it for all sorts of purposes - like sending out a text to all the newbies. Like this one here - sent from the formal parts of the Nacrene Gym! Whatever could it be? Well, read on...

Dear trainers;

This letter is to invite all of you to an archaeological dig in the Relic Castle, beginning in four days.

Us Gym Leaders have been watching you since you were attacked by those Pokemon around a month ago. Before then, those Pokemon had not stirred from their places in the various ruins of Unova. You're all something special - and that may not extend to just summoning Pokemon who have not been seen in many years.

The dig is to investigate reports of a strange stone, buried at the bottom of the Relic Castle. Many reports have poured in from trainers - the main parts of the ruins have been closed to the public for a while, due to them. We've looked before, but now it seems that things are changing in this region.

And that is why we are inviting you to come along. Transport will be provided, as well as protection from the elements. If any issues come up during the dig, us at the Nacrene Gym will take all responsibility for it - there is no need for panic.

We will be starting the trip to the ruins in two days - and the trip shall be sped up by our transportation. If you wish to come, reply by then.

Please note that during this time, the Nacrene Museum and Gym will be closed, as nobody will be there. We apologize for the inconvinience, but this may be one of the biggest finds of the century.

Yours sincerely;
Nacrene Gym

Well. You've got two days to talk it over with others - it seems the channel is still open, but there won't be replies from the gym. But you can still use it as a public talking ground thing with friends! |D

Joy...?

((OOC: This is part one of the event - just getting people going! In two days, I'll be putting up another post, for the travel [which is also just a shortthing] - but backtagging is encouraged for all of these things. And stuff. [We will need backtagging for the exploring won't we :p]

I'll also be putting up my plans for the whole dig in the OOC comm within the next few days.))

[Paprika would love to learn more about freaky ancient ruins and all that good stuff, but she currently has her hands full with a Croagunk who seems intent to cause her as much trouble as he can. She can be seen hiding behind a chair, a pillow in her hands ready to be used as a shield or a fairly humane means of protecting herself.]

Hey, man, did you just miss the part where I took care of your weird frog egg thing the whole time? I'm, like, your mom now, so if you wanna stop attacking me and start being a good mutant kung-fu frog, that'd be pretty legit.

[Oh, if only she knew enough about type advantages to realize that both of her other Pokemon are strong against a Poison/Fighting type...]

[HERE HAVE A DRAGONITE.

And her freaky ghost Duskull thing. Watching. From nearby.]

You're not fighting? [gosh it's like dragonite is the only one in the group who defaults to attacking stuff.

Also, you may notice that just near to her, there's a thin-looking Meowth - and Dragonite isn't attacking it. There will be a post about that as soon as I finish art for it.]

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, what the heck am I supposed to do besides--

[The Croagunk jumps forward again and attempts what seems to be an Astonish on the pillow. Nothing actually happens, but it's enough to make Paprika yelp a bit and bonk him on the head with said pillow, albeit gently.]

--that? I mean, beating him up would kinda be a dick move, right?
ext_1012826: (smug;)

[identity profile] adarkfuture.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
If they fight, you fight back. It's simple.

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, uh, considering he's the one that's gonna open up a can of whup-ass on me instead of the other way around, I'm probably not gonna be able to do much...

[The Croagunk makes a sound that's probably meant to pass for a giggle in concurrence--for a newborn, he's picked up on Paprika's total incompetence awfully quickly.]
ext_1012826: (mad;)

[action]

[identity profile] adarkfuture.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Then... [Dragonite has that look in her eyes. That fighting look. Oh dear. With a sharp nod, she suddenly leaps into the room, towards Croagunk. Hey, a fights a fight. It's not like she cares for you yet. (Or maybe she does.)]

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
[OH HOLY BALLS WHAT NO]

Hey, wait a sec--!

[Poor Croagunk may be a troublemaker, but he's still fresh out of the egg and stands a snowball's chance in hell here.]
ext_1012826: (scarry;)

[action]

[identity profile] adarkfuture.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[And now you've got one (1) pinned down Croagunk. Dragonite, however, isn't fighting more. However, she is growling at it.]
If you try and attack this Paprika [okay so she thinks your name is your species and what is multiple humans] again, I'll eat you alive. Got it?

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Thomas walks into the room, squinting at the Xtransceiver screen, re-reading the transmission. He only seems vaguely aware of Paprika's troubles and walks by them without looking up.] I just don't understand what they expect us to do on this venture of theirs. [He plops down in a chair and crosses his leg, still scowling at the Xtransceiver.] I certainly don't intend to do any digging.

[After a minute, he seems to finally become aware of the ruckus Paprika and her Croagunk are making. He looks up and frowns in their direction.] Look -- what's going on? Is that frog of yours actually attacking you?

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Paprika decides now would be a good time to just bonk the thing on the head with her pillow, albeit gently. It seems to work well enough to get the Croagunk to sit down, slightly baffled. Turning to Thomas, she puts on her best (which is to say, an American's rendition of a) British accent and shrugs.]

Iunno, guvnah, I just woke up and he was, like, jumping on my face.

[The effect is thoroughly ruined by the inclusion of her very modern slang.]

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thomas frowns, unamused by the attempt at an accent.] I see. Why don't you just put it in a Pokeball? [He gestures vaguely with his hand as he considers the options.] Or have one of your other Pokemon subdue the thing.

[He studies the Croagunk for a few seconds, a brow raised skeptically.] It's not the most handsome beast in the world, is it? What's it called, do you know?

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wow, she probably should have thought of that a lot sooner. Fishing around in her backpack, she grabs the first Pokeball she can find and chucks it in the Croagunk's general direction. It doesn't do much of anything, though, prompting a muttered curse from Paprika.]

Heck if I know. You'd think he'd, y'know, actually want to listen to me and stuff, right?

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Who knows how it works? I'm still trying to figure out how my egg hatched into a... what did that Jade Harley person call it? A robot? [Let me tell you about Dittos.

Thomas grunts in amusement at the completely ineffective Pokeball toss and starts fiddling with his Xtransceiver, trying to find the Pokedex app.]
I suppose, if you want, I could have one of my Pokemon take it out. Unless he's settled down now... Ah, here we go. [He holds the Xtransceiver out towards the Croagunk for a second. "Croagunk," says a computerized voice. "the Toxic Mouth Pokemon." Thomas frowns and looks at the screen.] Well, that doesn't sound very promising.

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Woah, snap, you got a robot?

[SO COOL. Other things that are cool include the fact that a guy from Victorian England has managed to figure out how to work the Xtransciever better than a modern American teenager who owns an iPhone anyways. Realizing that his mischief is getting him nowhere, the Croagunk takes a seat on the floor and busies himself making faces at Paprika as she tentatively clambers out from behind the chair.]

It's toxic? So wouldn't it just, like, melt right through the Pokeball?

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, I think so. I described it to someone and that's what they called it, anyway. It's made of metal. Harpy doesn't seem to mind, she still acts like its her chick.

[Don't worry, Paprika, Thomas only knows exactly enough about the Xtransceiver to supplement this Pokemon battling thing, which is the most brilliant idea for a sport he's ever heard of. Also he's pretty sure it's magic, despite what N says.] I... don't know. No? [He watches the Croagunk warily, sinking back in his chair. Frogs shouldn't have teeth like that... Especially not poison frogs!] I know that Poison is one of the Pokemon types, so there must be some kind of safeguard for it. At least, one hopes so. ...Anyway, you shouldn't let it act like that. He's supposed to follow your orders.

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Types?

[It is a miracle that she's still alive and well in this world, given the depth and breadth of her utter cluelessness.]

I guess I could, like, get a squirt bottle for when he's bad? Like with a puppy, only he's a frog.

[The Croagunk seems to take offense to this idea, making a warbling, disgruntled noise in the back of its throat that sounds something like what would occur if a bullfrog croaked into a fan.]

...Actually, is he even a dude?

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, types. There's... quite a few of them. Fifteen? I don't remember exactly, but Poison was definitely one of them. It was one of the stranger ones so I remembered it specifically.

[What is a squirt bottle even what are you talking about.] What; a perfume bottle? I don't follow. [He taps his fingers on the arm of the chair, thinking about the problem. Obviously they can't have a toxic bipedal frog running around causing mischief. That just seems... irresponsible.]

And what do you mean, is he a dude? [You are just lucky Thomas hasn't pulled out any Victorian slang. 'Course most of that cant en't fit for the delicate ears of buors or chavies, and he'd only break it out spreading flats in a lushery.] It's too bad N isn't here; he'd... [He waves his hand, not really sure what N would do.] Tell him to stop, I suppose. They listen to him.

[action] the sad thing is that she actually talks like that, and so do people I know

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
A squirt bottle. Y'know, you use it to get your hair wet so you can comb it if it's super-curly or whatever?

[Oh, snap, broski. She's, like, totally not sure she could legit top that shizz with her, y'know, modern teenage slang and stuff. She is trying to remember that he is from ye olden tymef, though, which is essentially everything prior to the 1960s as far as she's concerned.]

I mean, is he a guy? I know how to tell with iguanas, but I don't know anything about legit frogs, nevermind purple kung-fu ones.

[Paprika nods sagely in agreement, wondering if N would get it if she texted him. He probably wouldn't.]

Yeah, he's like, the Pokemon Steve Irwin or something.

[That probably was not the best analogy to make, but she means well, really.]

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
...Okay. [He shrugs and looks down at the Xtransceiver again, seeing if he can glean anything from the rest of Croagunk's Pokedex entry. Since he hasn't caught one, it's not very well filled out.] Half of the words you say I am fairly sure don't exist. But, no, I am not sure how to tell whether your 'kung-fu' frog is male or female.

[He glances up, giving a good-natured grin. No hard feelings, weird future girl.] And he or she seems to have worn themself out, anyway.

...Did you read the letter, by the way? About the archaeological dig?

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I speak American, man.

[She's smiling, too, but he set himself up for that one as far as she's concerned.]

I read, like, half of it before this guy/girl/whatever [Said Croagunk ribbits again.] started flipping its lid. D'we just send this Gym person a text back like, 'hey we're a home-schooled kid, a British guy, a dragon that got turned into a chick, and this other kid, and we're coming to your ruins party' or something?

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs at that.] Oh, I see. American. It all makes sense now.

Hmm. Yes, it does say to reply... I assume N will want to go. Of course, I'm also assuming that finding this stone of theirs will actually help us in some way, which is the only reason that I want to go. But, yes, if N goes, Miss Dragonite will go, also.

[He switches the Xtransceiver back to the letter and reads over it again, frowning slightly.] I suppose we'd better ask N before we obligate him to attend. I wonder what sort of transportation they are providing?

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
So d'you think it's like some magical time-warp stone? I mean, this place is pretty legit, but I kinda wanna just tell everyone at home that it's all cool and I was just dimension-hopping and all that jazz.

[...Okay, maybe she's just a tiny bit homesick.]

They probably have, like, hovercrafts or some crazy shit like that.

[Which she would actually be delighted to ride on. Skeptically, Paprika glances down at her Xtransciever and prods a few buttons.]

I guess I could text him...

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighs and gives Paprika an exasperated look. Picking through that particular quagmire of slang was difficult but he manages to get the gist of it.] I don't know what the stone does, but hopefully it helps them return us to our homes. Since they're inviting us along I can only imagine it is relevant to us somehow.

[Thomas uncomfortably turns his attention back to the Xtransceiver. He still hasn't gotten used to hearing a young lady speak so profanely!] Hover... craft? Do you mean a balloon of some sort? I hope it is something like that; I very much enjoy balloons. And, well, you can text him, I suppose. We'll see him before the two days are up, though. It's not very urgent.

[action]

[identity profile] noplaidshirt.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You've been in a balloon? Like, a legit hot air balloon?

...They had balloons back then?

[Paprika, you dolt, you might want to brush up on the history that you probably slept through the first time around anyways.]

Eh, it only takes, like, five seconds.

[She's already tapping away, halfway done by the time she finishes speaking. Hopefully, N will actually get and read it.]

[action]

[identity profile] thomas-sinclair.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we have balloons back then. [He narrows his eyes a bit at that; it's still a discomforting concept, being from the past.]

I own a balloon, actually. I'm not a professional aeronaut by any means, but... [He powers down his Xtransceiver and returns it to his coat pocket, then looks up with a somewhat smug smile.] I have, on occasion, piloted it myself.

[He leans forward slightly to watch Paprika type the text message, noting that she is much faster than he is at it. He still can't get over the fact that the letters on the keyboard aren't in alphabetical order! They're all jumbled up! Why!?] I see. You are very quick with that; It would have taken me more time to do that than it would have just to go find him. [He laughs.]
