[action] accumula town square
Accumula's Town Square was very pleasant. It reminded Thomas of Hyde Park in London, although of course the Town Square was much smaller. Not nearly as impressive. However, the basic principle was the same: a park in the middle of a city. Thomas found the neatly groomed appearance of the park -- it's trimmed grass and shapely trees, the neat little stone paths and the fountain -- all very welcome differences from the overgrown, poorly tended wilderness of Route 1.
Which is why he chose it as a perfect location to study his new book. Sitting on a park bench, Thomas held a to-go cup full of sub-par coffee in his left hand, and, lying across his knees, a book labeled Pokemon Battle Strategy. A Lillipup lay curled up next to his feet, sleeping soundly. Thomas was regretting purchasing this particular book, as it was clearly targeted towards more experienced trainers than he. There had only been two options at the Pokemart, though, and the other had clearly been intended for children. Still, as he puzzled over lists of type advantages, he thought that a couple of cutesy illustrations might have made him feel better.
He took a sip of his coffee, grimacing at the taste, and looked around briefly. He noted that, yes, Dodger was still sitting on the edge of the fountain staring at all the coins people had thrown in. That was good; the Teddiursa had been ready to leap in earlier. Thomas frowned, hoping that he still didn't have plans to do so -- it was winter, after all, the water would be icy -- but at least if he was distracted by the coins he wouldn't go around pick-pocketing people. His gaze wandered lazily away from Dodger to the few people milling about, looking for anyone he recognized and anyone interesting who he didn't.
((Just wanted to ~officially~ move Thomas to Accumula, haha. He is so super exciting. If anyone replies, feel free to use [actionspam], I'll match you :) ))

Thomas, meanwhile, sat down in the chair opposite Estelle, hoping that he had saved face after forgetting about the Pokemon. He waves his hand dismissively. "Oh, you are quite welcome, Miss Heurassein. No trouble at all!" He sips at the bottle of lemonade. "Who is Yuri, if I might ask?" He thinks it might be a servant, which is intriguing. Servants were the first thing he noticed missing from this world. Even if Estelle wasn't from Earth, she acted the most like someone from home of anyone he'd met since leaving London. Maybe her world was like his somehow?

"Mm~ This isn't too bad once in a while~ The mayonnaise and cucumber make an excellent combination~" Estelle commented, complimenting the food while Thomas tried inquiring more about another subject.
"Oh, well Yuri is a dear friend of mine. He was the first person to ever take me traveling really~ He's very brave and very simple, a bit rude, but he's really caring~" Estelle explained, merrily taking another bite of her sandwich.

Thomas looked at Estelle, trying to maintain constant conversation to avoid awkwardness. "And Repede is your dog, I assume? My family has a dog, a little terrier; looks almost exactly like our friends here." He nodded towards the two Lillipups. "To tell the truth, I'm very interested in where you come from, Miss Heurassein. I've met many people since I left London -- that's where I'm from, London, England -- but out of all of them, you are most like the people I am used to. But maybe I am just too hopeful. After all, you said there were monsters in your world? There are none in mine."
no subject
"Oh no, Repede belongs to Yuri, they've been together since Repede was a puppy after all~ He still doesn't like me though," Estelle sighed, biting her sandwich with a bit of frustration this time. "He gets along with Rita and Patty just fine though, oooh~!"
Estelle gulped down some lemonade to calm down, it was sweet and refreshing, but it was probably better suited for a hotter day, she guessed.
"Oh well, my world, um, Terca Lumireis, has monsters outside all the towns and cities, they're natural beings that make up the world's food chain, so they're quite dangerous to humans. We've managed to make towns and cities centered with barriers to keep the monsters out~ Um, the government is a monarchy with knights that defend towns and cities and Guilds that do odd jobs and market goods. And um, well this explanation might take quite a while~" Estelle mused, thinking of how to best explain what her world was like. There could only be so much variation between worlds after all.
no subject
"I don't suppose..." He leans forward a bit, idly turning his lemonade bottle on its base. "Please excuse me if this offends -- it would in my world but I'm finding increasingly that mine is the exception -- but I don't suppose that you have... magic in your world?"
no subject
Estelle giggled as Thomas posed his next question. Well every world was different in its own way she supposed, there was distinct lack of aer or mana in this world it seemed anyway.
"Mmhm~ Magic is a prominent thing in my world~ Mages gather aer and form them into spells for all kinds of things~ I think a lot of them use blastia to do it though, so it's more of a science I guess~?" Estelle pondered, not quite remembering how her friends really did it.
no subject
Thomas sat back sullenly, looking at Estelle with a mixture of suspicion and disappointment. He thought they'd been getting along so well, too. How duplicitous of her, to act so normal! And what was this nonsense about aer, and blastia? And science? Ridiculous. But he figured there was no reason he should know the terms fairies used for their own magic and ideas, and it made sense for them to consider their actions as science. They were said to be very jealous of human achievements, after all.
"But... then... are you a fairy?" he asked, looking a bit shaken at the idea.
no subject
"Oh my, I guess I didn't explain it very well though, my apologies~" Estelle mused, trying to think of how to explain how her world's magic resources worked.
"What would you like to hear about?" Estelle inquired, finishing off the last of her sandwich.
no subject
He glanced up at Estelle when she offered more information. He shook his head. "I'm not sure. This is all very foreign to me -- there is no magic in my world, except fairy magic which we are not allowed to talk about." And I shouldn't have even brought up, he thought angrily to himself. If I hadn't asked, I could have been blissfully ignorant. He sighed. "I never expected to meet anyone who was so accustomed to it."
Thomas's Lillipup, finished with her food, moved towards his feet and plopped down sleepily. Finding it a welcome distraction, Thomas reached down and scratched at the puppy's ears. The mixture of such dangerous ideas with such a normal-seeming, pretty young woman was disconcerting, and Thomas, who had felt so relaxed and in his natural element, was now uncomfortable.
Still, he didn't want it to be too awkward. "You said you're better at healing than most people? Do you mean like... a doctor, with medicine and such?"
no subject
"Oh, and um, I'm better at healing magic than most people I know. Uh, I'd rather not talk about why that is though, eheh~" Estelle commented, as Tanit placed her bowl on the table, both of her Pokemon seeming to have finished their food.
no subject
Thomas looked up at the ceiling for a moment, carefully choosing his next words. "I am also sorry to be acting strangely. I have rather negative preconceptions about magic, you see -- none of which are meshing with my impression of yourself. I'd be happy to hear anything you'd like to explain, ah -- aer, and... blast something? But not if you don't want to." He smiles slightly. "We could discuss something more pertinent to our current situation, if you'd like? I may be able to answer a few questions about this world, if you have them."

((BRACE FOR IMPACT))
"Aer is a substance that pervades Terca Lumireis that is produced by Aer Springs around the world and can be converted into energy by using Blastia. Blastia are ancient technology developed by Krytians to harness aer for different purposes like purifying water, moving boats, warding off monsters with barriers, and enhancing one's physical abilities. Aer is pretty dangerous to organisms in extremely high concentrated quantities and broken blastia usually result in the lack of control of aer gathering. Though eventually aer would run out of the world at some point and then a great catastrophe would come about, but some group managed to figure this out and used the blastia and the power of the ancient beings that inhabit my world to convert aer into mana, which was much safer as an energy source~ Oh my, this almost sounds like a good children's story I could write~" Estelle giggled.
no subject
In fact, if he wanted to make convenient excuses, it almost sounded like aer was used the same as electricity, or steam, or any number of power sources Thomas was used to. True, it was used for things that were clearly not logical -- enhancing abilities, etc. etc. -- but thinking about it that way was somewhat calming.
"Thank you for explaining how your world works, though; it is very... intriguing. I --" He laughed. "I don't think I should like to visit it -- no offense to you, Miss Heurassein. It sounds quite dangerous!"
no subject
"Now um, since you offered, do you know how you got into this world? Unova that is~" Estelle started, trying to scrounge up what she could from her current situation.
no subject
"Ah... how I got here?" He frowned. He was still fairly sure, even though none of the other outsiders he'd talked to were in the same situation, that he was here because he was cursed. But he certainly didn't want to mention that, no matter how accepting N had been of it. "I am not really sure; I was simply walking in London when I turned a corner and ended up somewhere else entirely." That much was true, anyway.
"And I don't think anyone is sure why we're here, either. I and the friends I've made so far have decided to simply make the best of it."
no subject
"Oh well~ I guess I could learn more when I get to the Library in Nacrene City~ And it's so exciting to be able to travel again~" Estelle surmised, standing, picking Hachiko up and smiling.
"Well I'll probably take a look around town, Mister Sinclair~ I'm sure the people around here could offer me some globes of wisdom~ Would you like to come along~?" Estelle announced, as she pushed in her chair.
no subject
He straightened and re-addressed Estelle. "Ah, to tell the truth, I haven't been adventurous enough to speak with the locals very much. I mean, other than vendors and such." He nods towards the Pokemart. "But I'd be delighted to accompany you around town. It's really not so large a place. The Town Square park is its most charming attribute, if I may say so." He smiled warily.
no subject
She decided to go ask around for directions first. Though the people wandering around outside seemed more interested in talking about the relationship between people and Pokemon it seemed.
"Hmhm~ Oh how delightful, it says Accumula Town is The Fast-Growing Town. Maybe because it's a crossroads of sorts?" Estelle giggled as she read a sign out loud. She aimlessly decided to move to a higher placed house.
"If you get strong, you can move forward. If you move forward, you'll be stronger? The people here have very good things to say~" Estelle commented.
no subject
"They do have good things to say, don't they?" he responded absently, looking at the buildings they had yet to visit. "I hope you are finding them helpful. Although, ha ha, I'm afraid it's all mostly irrelevant advice."
no subject
"I heard there are some interesting musicians in this house~ Let's hear them play, shall we~?" Estelle suggested, gesturing toward the house in front of them.
no subject
He smiled and nodded at Estelle's suggestion. "I should like to hear them, yes. I wonder if Unova music is very much different from what we are used to?" He hesitated for a second. It was still so odd, to just walk up to a building and enter it unannounced. But that was the custom here, it seemed. Thomas shrugged, then stepped forward and opened the door for Estelle, piano music escaping from inside.
no subject
"Ooh~ How interesting~ It's very nice~" Estelle complimented, just standing and enjoying the music.
no subject
Thomas tapped his fingers quietly on the top of his walking stick, looking covertly at Estelle as the song went on. He was still cautious about her; he couldn't fully trust anyone who had anything to do with magic. She seemed so harmless, though, and she was so kind to everyone. He sighed quietly just as the song ended, and applauded courteously. "Bravo, sirs, bravo!"
no subject
"That was very nice~ It's so interesting to see aspiring artists play so brilliantly and unreserved~" Estelle commented as they stopped in the Accumula Town Square.
"I'm thinking of heading out toward Nacrene, Mister Sinclair~ You're free to join me if you wish~" Estelle stated, recalling her Pokemon for the time being.
"I'd like to see many more places and meet many more people out there after all~" The wonder expressed on Estelle's face probably couldn't be matched by anyone when she thought about what could lie ahead.
no subject
"Oh? You're leaving? I -- no, I can't -- I was planning on staying a day or two here, in hopes of seeing more of the outsiders." Thomas frowned slightly. He didn't really like the idea of Estelle traveling alone, but he simply couldn't leave now. "Are you sure you wish to go? I know this is a sleepy town, and not the most exciting, but the routes seem to be somewhat dangerous, especially for a lady like yourself traveling on her own. There are more than puppies and rodents on the roads ahead, you know."
no subject
"I didn't mention this, but I'm pretty athletic as well~ So I'll give them what for if I'm really in trouble~" Estelle winked, curtsying as she turned toward the entrance to Route 2.
"Well, I'll be off~ I'll see you again, Mister Sinclair~" Estelle stated, starting to walk slowly toward the town gate.
no subject
As he watched Estelle walk off, he ran his fingers through his hair: a nervous habit. After a a few moments, when Estelle turned the corner at the end of Town Square, Thomas sighed, shook his head, and shrugged. "Women," he said quietly to himself, "are quite impossible, no matter what world they come from."
He glanced up at the sky -- still not far from mid-day, the tour of the town hadn't taken long -- then moved back into the park towards an empty bench. Still had to read up on the differences between physical and special attacks, after all.
