001 ☄ [Video]
[Good evening, Unova! Care to take a gander at the network today, and... your eyes might hurt a bit. Someone is shining a blue light into the screen, from some sort of long, silver device. It is eventually pulled back, leaving a somewhat raggedy-looking man squinting at the screen. Floating just behind his shoulder is a pair of glowing green eyes-- an Elgyem.]
Is this working...? Light? [His voice is thick with an Estuary accent. The Elgyem blinks, and makes a few affirmative high-pitched sounds. The man arches his eyebrows and grins, looking fascinated.] Ah, yes, the light! Now, that’s rather simple, isn’t it? Anyways--
Hullo! I’m the Doctor. Now, can anyone tell me where exactly I am? I just turned up here-- but just me, not anything else. Don’t see how I could just turn up like that, but here I am! And “here” is certainly nowhere I’ve been before... Which is funny, seeing as I’ve been pretty much everywhere-- And there doesn’t seem to be any way out, does there? A bit troubling, that... Ah, can't be helped, I suppose. [Not until he finds the TARDIS, at least... He glances over his shoulder, finding the Elgyem. Its eyes widen in alarm, and it shies away from him, floating off-screen.]
Normally, I would just ask these things to the locals here-- but it seems this one doesn’t talk much. Just makes this sort of... blinking with her hands. Interesting sort of communication, but I can’t say it’s easy to get specifics from... So here I am! Does this get broadcasted to everyone? The signal seems to reach out to anyone that has one of these things... It's clever, very clever. Brilliant creatures, you all. Right then, I'm sure you can help answer the few questions I've got?

No human can understand Elgyem. [Or Emmet, either.] They were only discovered 50 years ago, and they are aliens to any Unova! But I am Emmet, and I am a Subway Boss, and I will talk! Yup!
[...]
You are in one Unova - but it is not mine. An alternate world! Full of adventure! It is a lot like mine... but it is still not. If there was a way out, I would not be here. Nope!
Spoilers: it's not.]Aliens? Really? [Well, now... That made sense, didn't it? He glances at the Elgyem still hiding off-screen.] Ohh, now that's brilliant. An alien planet with aliens of its own. [He grins widely.
But that grin fades suddenly at Emmet's explanation, his expression oddly serious.] Alternate world? [Alternate worlds weren't good. If he didn't get back to the TARDIS fast, he could be trapped here forever... as could everyone else that got pulled in here...
The grin returns just as quickly as it faded.] Well! That's the proper spirit: "full of adventure"! Oh, I like that. [He nods to himself.] Right then, it's very good to meet you, Emmet! But tell me, what exactly is a Subway Boss? Since when've subways needed bosses? Other than the drivers, I mean.
...but you just had to ask what a Subway Boss was. Ohboy, that's one of the things Emmet is proud of this lifetime.] Well! Our Subways are not normal Subways! Me and my twin brother, Ingo, run a Battle Subway - where Pokemon Battles meat the joys of riding the subway! I make sure everything is running fine! And I'm also the challenge when people get to a multiple of 21! Yup, it was great! [And he misses it. So much - the slightest bit of anger entered his voice towards the middle of that, but it quickly vanished back to his normal cheer.]
But, yup! This is an alternate world - it is not my Unova. Things are different. Verrry different. [Okay, there's a bit of seriousness in his voice. But his smile isn't trembling or changing. Because that's just how he is.]
And he switches the topic breezily.] Pokemon battling on a subway? Isn't that, I dunno... maybe a little dangerous? [Now, he's fine with dangerous. But how exactly did such a thing even work? One wrong move, the whole train could be destroyed, he'd think.] And you say this Unova-- [He says it carefully, getting used to its sound. Nope, not a world he's heard of.] -- is different from yours... How so?
But at that second bit, Emmet shakes his head fast.] We're the safest place to battle! Safer then the wild! Safer then the gyms! There's no chance of injury! Our Subway Trains have been tested with the strongest attacks we can find! [Why, yes, they have been attacked by Zekrom and Reshiram.] Not even a dent! After we found the right ones...!!
[And now he can mention some of the differences. Not the differences in him, that is.] Firstly, it was not Winter when I was at home, but it was here. Also, the Pokemon are veeery different - I found a Hoennian Pokemon where they should not be! Yup, it's weird.
And... there are people here, who would not be allowed to walk these lands in my Unova! [why yes he's talking about n] Those are some of the differences!
As for the part about the Subway, he gives a slightly disbelieving grin. Not even a dent, eh?] Really? Must be some impressive trains you've got!
[And he falls silent as he listens to the listing of differences. He has to note these as well, if he's going to try helping those trapped here. He nods slowly.] So... Seasonal shifts have changed? And species from outside of this area are being pulled in-- quite a bit like we have, hm? [He pauses.] What do you mean, "would not be allowed"?
And of course he's proud of his trains. They're his life right now.] They used to be less safe. But we've never had a death - we protect people and Pokemon alike! Yup~!

Furom what I've heard, this place is called Unova! And I think a lot of us just appurred here, too. Funny, huh? [And then there's an incoming Shinx, pawing curiously at the screen because this Elgyem is so cool, but Nepeta just pushes him away.] You've played with this enough today!
no subject
Oh, yes, quite funny!
[He smiles slightly when the Shinx appears. He's not much of a cat person, but... he'll be damned if it's not cute.] Is that your cat? Or did you arrive here with it? [With the Doctor distracted again, the Elgyem floats closer, peering over his shoulder at the screen.]
no subject
I was given him when I got here! [Oh boy, you've gone and started her on her cats. Here we go. Completely oblivious to any concern there might be about this whole world-moving thing, she beams and picks up her Pokémon and proudly holds him up in front of the screen. Leon just stares in response, looking completely baffled and makes a little mewling noise towards the Pokémon he sees in the little device his trainer constantly insists on showing him off to.] I'd nefur seen a cat like Leon befur I got here. But I've taken him in as my kitten! [He meows again at this and Nepeta makes a meowing noise right back, but their attention keeps to the screen and so their attempt at conversation stays short.
no subject
Then again, he is starting to pick up on Nepeta's punny verbal tic. "Fur" and "purr" seem to be recurring... And there's always the horns. Almost like cat ears. ... Oh.
Now how to ask what species she is without sounding rude and still feigning his human guise?] Now ah... Those horns on your head. [He gestures vaguely to the top of his own head with a grin.] Are those real? They look a bit like cat ears, you know.
jskfgh your icons are just the best thing oh my god
Once the horns are questioned, she just beams. Nepeta's growing used to people finding her kind of funny-looking and is glad to explain! If anything, she's become kind of proud of the whole different-species thing she's got going on.] Of course they're real! Heehee, I know! They're absolutely purrfect!
skldjfksdlk the most quality faces amirite
But hey, Nepeta seems far from hostile! And... oddly unfazed by the questions about her alien characteristics.] Really? [He grins widely. Yeah, he's going to dare to be forward.] Never seen anything quite like them... What is your race exactly?

[His eyes dart between the Doctor and the Elgyem for a moment. He adjusts his cap apprehensively.] It's just... You're the first person I've met here that doesn't have an accent. Well, I mean; you have a bit of an accent, kind of a lower... class... [He clears his throat, stopping that line of thought. Accents were a clear demarcation between classes back in his time, but there was no reason to bring that up.] ...You wouldn't happen to be from London would you?
The Doctor is apparently unfazed by the implications behind the comment about his accent. His eyes widen with some sort of revelation as Thomas continues talking, and a fascinated grin spreads across his face. Now that's 1800's-- maybe early 1900's-- talk right there. So... the residents here were not only taken from across planets and universe, but time periods as well. At the question, he frowns in thought.] Ohh, well... [He scratches his head.] I'm from... around. Bit of a traveler, me. I rather like London, though! Lots of friends in London! [Doctor, that does not answer the question.] You're from London?
[He seems to deflate a little when it becomes clear that the Doctor is not, in fact, a Londoner. He'd been so sure...! The accent was pure London. But at least he'd been there! That was something of a breakthrough.] I see. Yes; I am from London. Well, Westbury originally, but, yes -- London. I'm very glad to meet someone who has spent time there! So far there only seemed to be three types of outsiders: locals, people from strange places I've never heard of, and Americans. [He laughs lightly.]
[He grins.] Ohh, careful what you say about those Americans, though. They'll getcha. [His grin becomes a bit sympathetic. At least when he brought companions into that sea of nonsense, they were willing and had him as a guide. Doesn't look like anyone here had such luck. And he's actually part of that nonsense... But let's not reveal that now.] Guess this place just decided it wanted a little more London! What's your name, then?
Yes, everyone else was given one when they got here. I've never seen one like yours, but someone once told me there were more than 600 different kinds... [He shrugs.] They stay inside the little balls, the, um, Pokeballs. Unless they don't. It's kind of hard to explain, actually. They're all sentient, you know. [He gives Elgyem a look.] They understand what you're saying, anyway.
[Thomas grins in return, appreciating the Doctor's humor.] Oh! Dreadfully sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Thomas Sinclair. You said you were a doctor...?
Pokeballs! Oh, that's right-- Pokeballs! That's what they were called! Oh, that's interesting-- that's very interesting! [Pokemon! He's stuck in a fictional world! His grin suddenly fades.] Wait a minute-- No, that's bad. [He rakes his fingers through his hair, eyes wide. He's in a video game? Or is it the television show? The questions still lead back to a giant "how?"
But, in a flash, his worry is gone as he changes the subject, not acknowledging his tangent.] Sentient? Oh, yeah, you can tell, can't you? [He turns, and, startled, the Elgyem floats away again.] They've got personality! Thoughts! [No wait can't talk about the mental link yet--] It seems like. Apparently we're supposed to be partners of some sort... And I'd rather be partners with an alien than, I dunno... a rock.
And ah-- I'm the Doctor, actually. [A grin.] Thomas Sinclair! It's very good to meet you.

Hello there! Another Doctor, hmm? [Miror B. grins broadly; his signature music is playing quietly in the background.] You're a clever one yourself -- got it half-figured out already haven't you? Anyway.
[He waves a hand impatiently; been through this a million times before.] Yes, you're stuck here -- welcome to Unova by the way. That -- [He points at the Elgyem.] is a Pokemon. [He lowers his glasses a tad and peers critically at the Elgyem for a few seconds, his rhythm interupted.] Yes, a Pokemon. Some Unovan thing. Don't worry about it too much.
So! Go on, then, darling. [Miror leans back languidly, lounging in a chair somewhere.] Fire away. Question number one...?
no subject
Yes, quite the welcome this place gives, by the way. Sets you down with nothing but the clothes on your back and a little critter in a ball! Rather thrilling, that, but it's got to scare away most visitors, eh? [He glances around, finding the Elgyem floating a short distance behind him. The Elgyem just tilts her head as she's pointed at. The Doctor's eyes are wide when he looks back at the screen.] Well... Alright, if you say so. You seem to be a bit more of an expert than me. [He looks briefly at the Elgyem again. She promptly flees.] But... a Pokemon. Blimey, I thought she was some sort of alien!
Oh, right, questions, questions... [In thought, he combs his fingers through his hair.] ... Alright. Question number 1: were you transported here as well, or are you a previous resident?
no subject
[He tilts his head to one side thoughtfully in response to the Doctor's question, and smiles slyly.] What an interesting question! You want to know about me? Fuhoho! I was transported here, too, but I'm from the same world as this. Well! A similar world, I suppose! Who knows how it works. Different region, though -- there's quite a few, you know. [He inspects his fingernails idly, watching the screen from behind his shades.] So I guess the answer is both, darling. You're right, though... [He grins.] I am an expert.
no subject
Regions... Bit like countries, yeah? At least, that's what it sounds like. [He pauses, contemplating.] Next question: do you remember what you were doing, just before you were transported?
no subject
And you can call them whatever you want, I suppose. Countries, regions; sounds like you understand that bit, though, hm?
[He is quiet for a few moments after the next question. He doesn't really like it. He'd been expecting the usual run-down; what's a Pokemon/Pokeball/where am I/what's going on/why am I here! On the one hand, that would be tedious. But this current line of questioning is strange, and he can't figure out why.] Yes, I remember what I was doing. [His answer is abrupt, he doesn't expand on just what he was doing. Question answered.] Why, don't you?
no subject
His cheeriness fades, first at Miror's apparent unwillingness to answer the question fully, then as the question is redirected at him. He is quiet for a moment, suddenly looking very somber.] ... I do. [He realizes that he isn't quite ready to elaborate on that answer himself either. He isn't quite ready to even think about that answer at all yet, really.
He forces on another grin.] Touche! Right then-- next question. Have you got a name? I'd like to get to know all the experts I can!
