[Paprika is perched on the steps of the Nacrene City Pokemon Center, definitely looking a little less perky than usual. She's holding what appears to be a dark blue hairband loosely in one hand, and is propping her chin up with the other. Seated on her Trainer's lap, Nugget croons in encouragement, but receives only a halfhearted pat on the head in return.]

Man, I'm sorry, I totally suck at this, don't I?

[Despite obviously not being in good spirits, she still laughs weakly and manages a good smile. Somebody's just learned firsthand why Lenora is so infamous amongst Unova's Trainers.]

[She shrugs it off, generally impervious to snark.]

Got any tricks of the trade or whatever? I mean, she was pretty nice about it and all, but it's totally different when you've actually gotta learn how to stop sucking so bad, y'know?

[And then Grimsley just... sighs.]
If you don't work for it, it's not worth it.
[But then you bitch about losing to Burgh.]

So d'your mom and dad know you're running around and doing this Pokemon thing? Like, people are legit cool with that around here?

[ Have a Hazel. Just walking restlessly instead of moping. She's not really paying attention to where she's going. She's actually just circling the Pokémon center. Her Pokémon are kinda following her around like worried ducklings. ]

[Spotting Hazel, Paprika puts the little pity party on hold and waves to the other girl--she's rarely one to turn down a conversation.]

Hey, Hazel! You okay?

[ She stops abruptly at the sound of her name. ]

Huh?

[ Cloud saw it coming and didn't bump into her but, Cid bumped into Cloud when he stopped. Yuffie just decides to fly up and land on Hazel's head. ]

Oh... I was just thinking about a thing I got delivered...

[ Bird does not belong on head so she'll just reach up and de-tangle the Swablu from her hair. ]

[Oh, dear.]

A thing? D'you mean from home?

[She indicates the hairband she's still holding--it's definitely not hers, to say the least.]

[ Hazel gets the bird off her head and just holds it for now. ]

Yeah. It's kinda heavy and I can't really use it here but, I got it from mom and...

[ She shrugs. Sentimental stuff aside, magic books are not something you just leave lying around. She's got it in a messenger bag at the moment. ]

So like, a care package or something? S'pretty sweet!

[Paprika casually tucks the hairband into her pocket and glances back up at Hazel, already feeling a little better just by virtue of chatting with someone else.]

Whatcha been up to lately?

Well, mom gave it to me when I was twelve and it was home when I got here but, now it's here...

[ hazel will take a seat on the stairs. She's tired from walking in circles. ]

I've just been training so we can go look for interesting pokemon safely 'cause I'll probably need them to get anywhere with this breeding stuff.

Did your thingy break or something? I mean, I bet getting something zapped through space-time or whatever can be pretty rough.

[Ah, training. Paprika could probably stand to do some of that, if only to get more accustomed to actually battling for herself.]

Breeding? Like, for showbiz and stuff?

[She's imagining something like the designer dog breeds she's seen on Animal Planet done Pokemon-style.]

[ Hazel is trying to talk about a thing without saying what it is... And she doesn't think it's possible for her book to be damaged. ]

I don't think anything's broken.

[ She's actually managed to not battle any other trainers. ]

Sort of. I'm not really sure about doing it but, I don't think I'm suited to gym battles at all.

[N was actually just looking for Paprika. His Darmanitan finds her first, apparently having followed Nugget's voice, and makes quick work of the steps, leaping past a few at a time and eventually landing in a crouch beside Paprika.

N scales the steps too, looking like he's not in the brightest of moods either. He's carrying a crown at his side in one hand.] Paprika? [He's definitely not the best at reading people, but he's at least able to tell that something's a bit off with her.] Is something wrong?

[It would take a very stoic person to not be amused by a Darmanitan barreling up some steps to say hello, and Paprika is about as far from stoic as it gets. Nugget wriggles off her Trainer's lap to chatter a greeting, and Paprika pats N's Darmanitan on the head as he approaches.]

Huh? Oh, I mean, I kinda just got my butt kicked, but shit happens, y'know?

[She glances down at his crown.]

Nice bling, man.

[Yes she just used the word 'bling' unironically.]

[N frowns sympathetically.] Oh. I see.

... Bling? [He follows her gaze to the crown.] Ah. [He lifts it slightly and gives it a disdainful glance.] You may take it, if you wish. [He takes a seat at her other side and sets the crown down between them with a heavy sigh.]

... Lenora defeated you, then?

What, didja get it at Burger King or something?

[In spite of her joking demeanour, she can tell the crown probably isn't such a good thing, so she leaves it where N put it down and instead experimentally sticks Rose's hairband onto her own head.]

Yeah, she beat me pretty bad. I mean, she was totally legit, and she was really chill about it, but it still kinda bites.

[Realizing how dumb she probably looks with pigtails and a hairband, Paprika removes the latter and sets it back on her lap.]

[He of course misses the point that it's supposed to be a joke.] No... I was not aware there was a burger king. But I'm fairly certain I am not one.

[He frowns a little. Maybe he should try offering training tips to her again... But what she's doing with the hairband distracts him. He watches until it's set back onto her lap. He points at it.] What is that?

[N's hapless reaction evokes a full-out burst of laughter--being home-schooled must sure be hard.]

Oh my god, man, Burger King like the store. With the fast food and the creepy as balls ads?

[She holds the hairband back up again when he asks.]

This? Oh, uh, it just kinda popped up. I'm pretty sure it's Rose's.

[He shakes his head, a blank expression on his face.]
I have never heard of such a place. [Though he would probably feel very uncomfortable if he saw those ads...

He looks at the hairband.] Rose? That is your mate, isn't it? [Girlfriend, N. Girlfriend N pls...]

Girlfriend, dude! It's not like we go into mating season or whatever and then go all like, "let's make magic lesbian babies!" and stuff!

[Ah yes, nothing like a clueless N to cheer yourself up.]
