Vlog of a Champion: Quiet Circles

[Cynthia stared directly at the screen of her Xtransceiver as a small red dot on the side began to blink. She was sitting inside one of the carriages of the Nimbasa ferris wheel and she had somehow paid the operator to get it to stop at the very top and stay there for a few minutes.]

I don't really feel the need to introduce myself since you people must have seen my face around at some point. But I guess to the people living under a rock, my name is Cynthia, sinnoh league champion.

[Insert a childish wave before aiming xtransceiver's camera at Gible sitting next to her.]

This is my baby, Chompy.

[Gible bounces around and waves at the camera]

I don't really have much to talk about, but I just felt like sharing this wonderful view with..the network. It would have been fun to share this moment with someone special but I guess right now it's just Chompy and I.

[She sighs and stares at the screen again]

Is anyone ever out there?

This is Batgirl. Introduction was appreciated... as is the view; I... prefer such views.

I like many here are from worlds not similar to this one, many without Pokemon or a full understanding of the workings of this world; so your face is new to me. I do not understand what a champion does; but I will mention now that this area seems under threat by an organization known as Team Plasma. I have limited information; but I understand one should be cautious when dealing with them even if they do pose a threat.

I am unsure what you plan to do while here; but as "champion" perhaps you can be of some assistance.

[She didn't expect a reply, let alone one from a complete stranger. But she might as well reply. With a press of a button, the little blinking red dot appeared again]

Basically a champion is the highest level one could achieve as a trainer. I battled the pokemon league, defeated a full conference, the league elites andthe former champion, and I'm considered the strongest trainer in my region. It's kind of a big thing around here.

But enough about that, of course I'll help you with whatever you need. I know Unova quite well after all.

[As she reappears on the screen, she is silent for a few moments before speaking; somewhat taken aback at Cynthia's confidence and apparent skill in her home dimension.]

Thank you for your offer of help. I will let you know when I may need anything specific. I am currently travelling to the gym most commonly challenged second by trainers in this league. Although I have heard badges earn respect here, I am heading there due to a tip Team Plasma may also appear in the city.

Although this Unova likely differs from the one you know; if you can share any information you have of Team Plasma, or even any other dangers this world may have that I do not know; it would be appreciated.

Ahh...well I don't really know if I'm going to participate in gym battles. I mean contests, sure, but losing to a gym would be a gigantic blow to my ego and I don't really want that...

As for Team Plasma, I have some info about them, but not a much as what my friend Looker has.

"Waaaaah! It's really the Sinnoh Champion! U-um, my name is Estellise and I've read about you in the N-nacrene Library a-and it says you visit Unova a-a l-lot anditsverynicetomeetyou!" Estelle stammered, her face appearing on Cynthia's screen. She did a little fumbled cursty in the meanwhile.

"Ah! That's the Ferris Wheel isn't it? The view from up there is quite lovely as always~!" Estelle commented, charmed.

"A-are you on your yearly visit to the region, Miss Champion?"

[It was a cute thought that people were actually reading about her in this region as well but then again, her face could be found in at least two out of five magazines so...whatever.]

Aww you're such a dear...I wish I could say I was here on vacation but actually the entralink somehow dragged me here. I had so much to do back at home but...well since I can't leave I might as well move my vacation to now.

Ah well you could say that, I mean, to me it's not a mess at all since I spend a lot of time here and I have a lot of friends who could help me out but then it is kind of a hassle for me to have to re-train Chompy

[Gible bounces in front of the screen happily]

"Um... if it's alright... can I ask get your opinion on a few topics?" Estelle inquired, nervous.

[She sees the clerk come into view and quickly opens the carriage door with a few bills in her hand]

I supposed this would suffice for another ride to the top sir?

[Here we see the clerk look at her dumbfounded but took the money and shut the door for her. Cynthia is seen smirking as she returns her attention to the camera]

Sorry about that, anyway what topics exactly? Because if it's league gossip, I know absolutely nothing.

"W-well, it's only been a little while s-since I came here, b-but, what do you t-think makes a good trainer? I'm s-sometimes not sure if I'm treating my Pokemon correctly or not..." Estelle sighed, not really confident in her trainer skills despite the fact she had 4 badges.

What makes a good trainer huh? I supposed, you become a good trainer the day you stop doubting your ability, and the ability of your team. That day I stopped, the world just seemed so much better...and soon enough, I was champion

"O-oh! Is that the case!? Then I guess I'll give it 100% with everyone to be the best!" Estelle declared, pumped up.

"Though this is just a way to get home I guess~ Eheh~" Estelle commented sheepishly.

[Well, she doesn't seem to recognize him. He exhales and offers a smile.]
I see. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance, then, Cynthia. And my apologies for not recognizing you. [Because N literally grew up living under a rock. Several rocks, actually.]

[He nods a little.]

My name is N. [And he was a Champion too... for, like, an hour. But he has enough sense to not mention that.] The Champion of Sinnoh, you said? Is this your first time in Unova, then?

Well no, I come here every spring and summer to stay with my friends at our villa in Undella. But seeing as Chompy can't really fly yet, I'm kinda stuck here.
[sigh]

And is N short for something? If you don't mind me asking.

Oh. I see. [He's never been to Undella.

He's about to ask some further questions, but the one addressed to him distracts him. It's apparently not the first time he's been asked this question. No. It is just the variable. [He frowns.] People ask me similar things quite often. It is strange to me.

[then she notices the frown and just keeps the next question to herself.]

I'm sorry, I'm just not used to such a unique nickname.

[He nods.] That is what I think of my name as: the value to be solved for, the quantity subject to change in a calculation. [He smiles with an odd wistfulness.] A fitting name, I suppose.

[He shrugs slightly.] It is strange that people assume it is a nickname. The letter is my full name. [Spoilers: it actually isn't. But he doesn't know that.] It's all I've known. How long must a name be, to be considered a name?
