Um, hello? Could anyone point me to the right direction? I'm kind of new here. The old man said I should participate in... Pokemon Battles? Is this a Pokemon?

I haven't seen one quite like that, but I do believe it is a Pokemon! Indigenous to this region, most likely.

As for pointing you in the right direction, that all depends on where it is you want to go. If you mean back to your home, I'm afraid that isn't possible. Ah, but you've already had that explained, haven't you?

Do you have any advice on this... Pokemon battling thing?

Well, truth be told I'm not what you would call a battling expert, but...I suppose one of the basics any new trainer must know would be type advantages! Some are elementary, such as fire melting ice and electricity having no effect on the ground, and some can be puzzling such as an ice's super-effectiveness against a dragon. I'm not sure what type your little friend is, but by the looks of him I would venture to guess at least half steel type. Very useful, defensively. Not certain on its offense, I'm afraid.

Uh, it's... Dark/Steel? That's what this... Pokedex says at least.
