Second Card - Training Required

If one were following the feed from Yuuma's Xtransciever following the week he left the Entralink (again), they'd have probably wound up shaking their heads more than they could count. Training up his litwick would not be the cause however-

Anyone knew that challenging a gym to a triple battle with over five levels of difference between the pokemon was stupid.

"WUAAAAAAAHHH-!" Enough that the attacks managed to blast him back. "Usheeeeeeehhhh..." All three gym leaders likely shared some sort of advice/comment what-have-you after the fact of course...

But that didn't change the fact that he was being a bit ridiculous about things for the moment. "Hahhh... Alright..! If we can't beat them today... Then we'll try again tomorrow! We'll do better than ever before! KATTOBINGU-DA!!"

"Liiiiiitwiiiiiick!!" ...That didn't sound like a team of approval- That sounded like only one shout of approval..!

Feel free to point out to Yuuma, as he looks down in confusion, that the fact that his pidgey is currently giving him a glare, and that his zorua is mimicking the expression perfectly, is a sign that a trip to either another route or the dream yard for training is in order- because he's certainly not listening to the invisible alien beside him.

[Hilda's own days as a rookie, back in her own Unova, aren't so far behind. Ah, Striaton gym! She finds Yuuma's antics kind of nostalgic, and decides to chime in.]

You know, I like your spirit! If you keep that up, I'm sure you'll get far. [She scratches her cheek a bit, pausing.] Might be a good idea to train a bit more before trying that again, though.

[Eh? He left this thing on again?] Training..?

Ah- But if I can't beat the gym, I can't go that far on the trail right..? [W-Well that's true but... There's always the Dreamyard...

...Someone doesn't know where that is, oh...]

That's right, but, you can always backtrack!

Oh. And there's the dreamyard too. [She leans into her hand, resting her cheek on her palm.] Still, it looks like you managed to catch a good number of buddies for your first gym match. Though... [She closes a single eye coyly and waggles a finger. Here, boy, let me tell you about the Pokemon world.] Having a bunch isn't enough, you need to train them until they're stronger.

Ah- I got Muzumuzu from the Entralink... And Kuribolt found Achacha on route 2... [Ohhhh you phrase things so amusingly.]

...Dreamyard..? [Oh- The conversation has tugged at Astral's attention too!

Yuma looks back at the screen.] Ah- What's the Dreamyard?

[Hilda listens curiously when he mentions nicknames. Whoa man, those are some pretty crazy names. Power to him! But her attention is quickly caught again.]

-- Oh, you've never been there? It's kind of hidden away, but it's a good training spot. It's just behind the city, ask anyone. It's really just the ruins of some lab, but a lot of trainers hang out there.

Other trainers? [Aha! A grin then!] Alright..! We'll be ready in no time..!

Perhaps the entrance is in that gap between buildings we passed earlier... [Ehhh..?

He turns, nodding.] Right- Good idea. [Yuuma, someday the others will see him right?]

[When he turns around and nods at the apparently empty air behind him, Hilda curiously leans off to the side - like trying to see past him. Of course, she can't because the screen is flat and the video feed is fixed. Silly Hilda. So she decides to ask outright.]

Huh. Is someone else with you there?

Eh? Yea, Astral.

[Thumb gesture to thin air. Whoops. He sighs, crossing his arms.] So far, it's the same as in my world though, no one can see him... [Hrnnnnn...

Well at least Kuribolt can. That Zorua certainly seems entertained by SOMETHING in that vicinity.]

As...tral? [She squints at the air next to him. It looks like it's just air, though.] Only you can see him? So like, a ghost? [Actually that sounds creepy, and she immediately wishes she hadn't offered that suggestion. She shudders a little.]

A ghost..? [Hnnn... ] I guess..? He doesn't seem like a ghost, but, I go right through him too so..!

[Behind him, Kuribolt is very cheerily 'mimicking' Astral in her real form...

...And then in Astral's.

...Yuuma. Yuuma, turn around.]

[N... does not look so happy about Yuuma's proclaimed plans. He meets the video with a disapproving frown.]
Don't be foolish. Taking on a gym that you cannot beat the very next day is pointless. You will exhaust your Pokemon and send them immediately back into a battle they cannot win.

E-Ehh?

[Not that N can likely see him, but Astral is nodding in agreement.] He is right- this is a battle we cannot win without proper training.

Ah- [Yuuma of course, turns to Astral... Not N.] You don't even know about pokemon..!

It is obvious enough.

Muzumuzu is ready..! [...As the litwick cheers again.]

And the others...?

[The three other pokemon are now watching as Yuuma deflates in apparent defeat- what N makes of all this is another story altogether.]

[For a moment, N looks affronted, thinking the comment was aimed at him and not Astral. Well, he certainly knew more about Pokemon than this boy did...!

But before he can make his retort, he seems to realize that Yuuma is holding conversation with... thin air. He tilts his head and squints, as if straining to see whatever Yuuma is really speaking to. He quickly gives up, though.]
Even if Litwick believes he is prepared-- though I would admire his courage-- it can be dangerous to take on a gym with under-leveled Pokemon. And the rest of your comrades do not seem quite so eager for the battle.

[He sighs lightly.] I would advise that you take time to train and strategize.

Nhhhhhh.... Worse than Astral... [Who is-]

But if I go past the city, I'll still be underleveled right? [Whatever that term even means.] And... If I backtrack, then they'll be too powerful compared to everything else, right? [Well.

...Someone missed the cue for the Dreamyard...]

Astral...? [What did stars have to do with this?

Hm. No matter.] True... You are in Striaton City, correct? [He thinks for a moment. It's been a while since he was in Striaton himself. What did he do to train...?] Have you visited the Dreamyard yet?

...Dreamyard?

[...That's a no.]

It used to be a research facility, but it's since been abandoned. Pokemon make their homes there now. [He smiles slightly. It was an improvement, he thought.] I believe other trainers gather there as well to train against one another-- perhaps you could join them?

[Grinning now.] Hah! Great idea..! If I'd known there was a place like that before... [...He'd have still gone after the gym first. But shhhhh that's not the point!

Right now, he's a little curious.] Ah- What kind of pokemon are there?

Well, it's home to Munna for one-- occasionally their evolved form Musharna as well. That is what the Dreamyard is known for, but they're typically shy Pokemon-- rare when there are too many humans about. During the time I spent there, I also saw other Psychic-types, and a few Bug-types...

[He pauses. Should he give out this information to such a headstrong trainer?] If you are kind and take care not to startle them away, perhaps you will have a chance of seeing the rarer Pokemon. They have fascinating abilities, really.

Hoh... Munna... [...Yeeeeeeeep. He's got the idea in his head already...]

Interesting- from what I have heard in passing from this area, 'munna' are 'dream eating' pokemon. To see how a creature can eat something that is a figment of the human's imagination is not something we should miss... [Eh.

Yuuma is again turning to thin air...] Ah- What kind of reason is that..!! I'm not looking for munna so that you can watch it eat dreams..!!

[Well doesn't that spirit look confused.] ...It would do so eventually regardless, wouldn't it? You yourself have said that 'all things'... Humans and animals from this world and yours, require 'food' to live, correct? If 'dreams' are 'Munna's food-

You're giving me a headache...! [Yuuma is probably giving N a headache by this point.]

[N leans away from his screen slightly, eyes wide with confusion. He... isn't quite sure what to make of this. He wasn't even close to an expert on human behavior, but he had never seen a human talk to thin air so confidently. ... Then again, he supposes that maybe he looks just as strange, speaking to a Pokemon that no one else can hear speaking.]

Ah-- Th-that's right. Munna feed off of the dreams of other creatures. They also produce something called Dream Mist, which... [He trails off, having abruptly decided not to ignore the topic of Astral any longer.] Tell me, who is it that you keep talking to? I hear nothing.

Eh? This guy? [Stop pointing at the air.] It's Astral..! He came with me here, but even though neither of us know about pokemon...

...It helps to observe and listen. [He means that with utmost sincerity as opposed to insult of course.]

Ah! I have been listening..!! [He sighs, looking back to N.] Nmmm... Of course, no one else can see or hear him... [Except...

For...] Zoooo!

Ah, though Kuribolt can..! [And if the Litwick's wandering gaze is any sign, so can 'Muzumuzu'.]

Oh. [That's certainly strange... and quite difficult to believe. But the affirmative sounds Yuuma's Pokemon make tip him off that there really must be something there.]

Perhaps only Pokemon can...? [He looks off-screen.] Friends, come here for a moment. [A second later, three Pokemon have crowded into the screen behind N: a Zoroark, a Sigilyph, and a Klink. The Zoroark noses the screen a bit, interested by the sounds of Kuribolt.]

Comrades, can you tell me if you see another figure aside from the boy? [Zoroark tilts her head and reexamines the screen, but ultimately looks indifferent. She really just wants to talk to the Zorua-- she doesn't care about any ghost. Klink is the same, but looks a bit disappointed about it. Sorry, can't see anything, nope!

Sigilyph, on the other hand... It makes a few quiet chiming sounds that N listens to intently before addressing Yuuma again:] Sigilyph says she can see another with you. She says it does not seem to be fully human. [But that's to be expected of an invisible figure.]

[Ohoooo!! This makes things much better!] Ah! That's right..! Astral is from another world... Though... [Ahahahah...] He doesn't remember anything about it...

Zooo!

Eh? [Yuuma looks back at the Zorua.] Are you going to...

[Here you go N- a nice visual of-]

EEEEH? What kind of face-!?

[Oh, well, almost a nice visual of 'Astral'.]

I see. [Spending five months in this Unova has taught him to accept the explanation of "from another world" rather quickly.

And a moment later, Kuribolt has made an illusion of a person. N tilts his head, and addresses Sigilyph:] Is that what he looks like? [The Sigilyph makes an affirmative sound, and N gives Kuribolt a smile.] Thank you for the visual, Zorua. [Even if it's making a face at him.] And, I suppose... greetings to you, Astral. Even if I can't see or hear you.

[Oh- Astral shows just... A little surprise at that, before nodding.] Greetings then.

Ahh... He says the same? [Yea. Pretty much.

...Why is Kuribolt still in that form...] Ku-Kuribolt, you can shift back now...

Zoooooo!~

"...Really."
That's all the responce you get from Grimsley. Though he's not the best trainer, he knows that you need power to defeat the gym leaders.

Ahhhhh... Not you too..! [He gets it, he gets it, he needs training..!]

"Even I know you don't battle the first gym without training. Even other otherworlders know."
He's so going to be the champ before this kid. Smugsmugsmug.

"It's always good to try..!" Ow ow ow, his arm is singed... "Besides- Even this is making us stronger, right?"

...About half the pokemon agree. The other is looking toward the dreamyard.

Yuuma, how have you missed that entrance..?

"Heh, I'll beat them, first go. Why don't you go training?"
Note that this young Grimsley has no idea about the Dream Yard, since it hasn't blown up yet in the past. But Murkrow is curious, staring into the screen.

"Because both directions are either too strong or too weak..! It's not a fair match..!"

"...Gey." Eh?

"...Achacha..?" Following the pidgey with the screen reveals... "...EHHH?? This is the place they were talking about...?"

"A place to train." Grimsley stated. "Are you speaking of Route 3?"

He still kind of doesn't know about this being the future, mind you.

"No- everyone who's called today has been going on about this 'Dreamyard' place; I didn't see it before."

"Perhaps he is unaware of its location as well."

"Oh, true..."

"People... train at the Dreamyard? Wouldn't that interupt the scientists?" Those poor, hard working science-people. Oh, what Grimsley has to learn.

[...What.] Scientists..? [He frowns- what are you talking about...] But the Dreamyard is a ruin...! [Also the scientists are trainers apparently...]

...What are you on about?
[Grimsley shook his head. He'd never been there, but he'd heard of it. If it'd worked, there'd be a new type of power in Black City, after all.]
From what I know, that place is a research faculty. People looking into dream power, and all of that.

Everyone else here says it's a ruin though...! [And just to prove that, he's going to start walking toward it.] ...Nothing but rubble and grass, with lots of pokemon...
