Not a fairy? Oh, dear. Thomas frowned and slumped in his chair a bit, looking down at his plate. He guessed he had jumped to conclusions, but, really, how could Estelle come from a world full of magic and not be a fairy!? It was so confusing.

He glanced up at Estelle when she offered more information. He shook his head. "I'm not sure. This is all very foreign to me -- there is no magic in my world, except fairy magic which we are not allowed to talk about." And I shouldn't have even brought up, he thought angrily to himself. If I hadn't asked, I could have been blissfully ignorant. He sighed. "I never expected to meet anyone who was so accustomed to it."

Thomas's Lillipup, finished with her food, moved towards his feet and plopped down sleepily. Finding it a welcome distraction, Thomas reached down and scratched at the puppy's ears. The mixture of such dangerous ideas with such a normal-seeming, pretty young woman was disconcerting, and Thomas, who had felt so relaxed and in his natural element, was now uncomfortable.

Still, he didn't want it to be too awkward. "You said you're better at healing than most people? Do you mean like... a doctor, with medicine and such?"
